Why I'm Participating

What do a Killybegs and Kilcar man have in common? More often than not, it's their fondness of Naomh Ultan!

Shaun Kelly and Seanie Boyle are thrilled to be participating in this fundraiser for the club, both with deep connections to the club.

Their grandfather, Christy Kelly, not only played a pivotal role as one of the founding members but also served as chairman of Naomh Ultan in 1974. He dedicated numerous years to the club, holding various positions. Sadly, Christy passed away in December 2022, just over a year before our 50th anniversary celebrations. However, his legacy as a remarkable GAA man lives on through his family and his cherished establishment, MacLaughlíns Bar in Dunkineely.

Shaun's father, John, and Seanie's Stepfather, Donal, have both graced fields in the black and amber for many years, achieving notable success by clinching Intermediate B and Junior B Championships.

Notably, both Shaun and Seanie have left their mark as distinguished footballers. Shaun boasts an impressive career, having played in the League of Ireland for a decade, notably with Dundalk, Limerick, and Derry City.
Seanie, a senior footballer with Kilcar and, during his time in the UK, with Roger Casements GAA in Coventry, has tasted victory on numerous occasions. In recent years, he's claimed the Warwickshire Senior Football Championships and secured the All-Britain GAA Football Championship in 2021 with Warwickshire.
