Amy Shovlin & Leanne McHugh
Why I'm Participating

The "Point" contingent is well represented by Amy and Leanne, who are likely accustomed to the seemingly endless road journeys up and down St. John's Point!

We're thrilled to see representation in "100 To Home" from both the Shovlin household and the Ellison clan. Not only are they proud members of the St. John's Point community, but they also hold deep pride in their affiliation with our club.

The Shovlin name is practically synonymous with Naomh Ultan. If you were to traverse the length of the country and inquire about our club, chances are high that you'd often hear the response, "Shov."

Amy herself has had a footballing career she can look back on with distinction. She demonstrated her abilities and tenacity, holding her own alongside the boys on the field right up to the U14 level. She then played her ladies football with St. Nauls and there, she celebrated numerous triumphs at both underage and adult levels, while also representing Donegal at the minor level.

Years later, Amy found herself across the pond in London, where her presence with Parnells Ladies yielded numerous final victories and Championships. In 2022, she earned an inter-county debut for London. Unfortunately for Amy and her teammates, she suffered the wrath of the dreaded ACL injury on a few occasions and made it incredibly difficult to balance her work as a primary school teacher with the grueling rehabilitation of such an injury.

Nevertheless, when asked to participate in this fundraiser, Amy didn't hesitate for a moment. She brings plenty of experience on the bike, just more so the stationary kind!

Leanne, the other half of this dynamic duo from the Point, may not have played much football for Naomh Ultan, but she's always been a dedicated supporter of the club. Eager to seize the opportunity to take part in this event, Leanne, now residing in Co. Galway and working as a nurse, proudly represents her family in this cycle. Her parents, Gerard and Kathy, as well as her four brothers—Seoirse, Eoin, Donal, and Shay—all members of the club, undoubtedly will cheer her on every pedal of the way.

The Ellison family's involvement with the club goes beyond mere membership. Gerard is one of the most dedicated and active members, always ready to lend a helping hand. Just as he does out in his boat everyday, Gerard shows up without fail, regardless of the weather conditions, ensuring the task gets done. The club is incredibly fortunate to have such a committed and reliable member like him!
