John & Aaron O'Shea
Why I'm Participating

The O'Shea clan of Castlefeane, one of the original Kerry connections to Naomh Ultan! Despite any reservations Joe Brolly may hold in regard to Kerry production lines, the Kerry/Dunkineely one has thrived!

In the realm of Gaelic football, when a Kerry native finds their path to your locality, there's a notable urgency to integrate them into the local GAA community. This was precisely the case with John, and its dividends were evident as all his children proudly sported the black and amber jerseys throughout the years, each demonstrating abilities on the field, much to the delight of the club.

John, along with his wife Gwen and their children - Anthony, Seanie, Rebecca, Aaron, Melissa & Clíodhna - share a long connection with the club. From their parents' unwavering support to all five siblings actively participating across various underage teams, the family's presence has been felt throughout. Notably, Anthony and Seanie, who were involved in a few very successful underage teams, have proudly donned the senior team jersey in recent years, while Aaron, having reached playing age in 2022, contributed to the Junior B Championship triumph alongside Seanie.

The girls, determined not to be overshadowed by their brothers, have carved out impressive achievements of their own! Rebecca showcased her talent with the club up to U12 level. At the time the club didn't have any LGFA teams, therefore she continued her footballing journey with Na Cealla Beaga. She continued to showcase her abilities there, clinching titles at U14 level and representing Donegal LGFA at the same age group. She's continued to play with the Fintra based club and plays at adult level with them now.

Meanwhile, Melissa and Clíodhna flourished when the club introduced their LGFA teams. They were members of the inaugural girls' team to secure a cup victory, triumphing in the U14 shield final in 2021. Their impact continued to resonate as they played pivotal roles in clinching another victory last year, this time in the U16 Div 5 County final!

It is a known fact that John, the well regarded local plumber who prides his craftsmanship, also harbors a passion for cycling. Thus, when the concept of this unique fundraiser emerged, he was swiftly earmarked as a key participant. While Aaron may not be as seasoned on the bike, what better opportunity for some quality father-son bonding as they gear up for this endeavor!

Early signs suggest that John is a force to be reckoned with on the rothar, perhaps it warrants sending him up and down Errigal prior to the cycle so the rest and Aaron can match his pace!
