"Broc" proudly carries on the legacy of his father, Dermot, inheriting not just a nickname but also the weight of expectations - and he has more than risen to the challenge. Throughout his commitment to Naomh Ultan, he's proven himself an invaluable asset.
The Brosnan name holds immense significance within Naomh Ultan. It's almost certain that the original "Broc" has been a fixture in nearly every successful adult-level team for most of our history. From his days as full back in our inaugural team against Glenfin to his continued presence into the 1980s, where he played a pivotal role in securing numerous league titles and our historic first Championship as Naomh Ultan in 1984—the Intermediate Championship.
Standing tall both figuratively and literally, he transitioned to full forward, utilizing his distinctive height and stature to great effect. Despite his prowess on the field, he became somewhat notorious for sporting a knee bandage, with tales suggesting that on more than one occasion, it adorned the wrong knee.
In the 1990s, he assumed the dual role of player-manager for our inaugural reserve team, dedicating his playing years to that squad before shifting his focus solely to management. Over the years, he adeptly helmed various teams, and in recent times, he made a triumphant return to management. Notably, his leadership guided the reserve team to a Junior B Championship victory in 2022.
On the pitch, his son Emmet boasts an impressive collection of medals, a member of the very successful Minor team of 2008, who won county league and Championship titles. Even in recent years, his contribution remains, as evidenced by his part in the Junior B Championship winning team of 2022 which his father managed.
Beyond the field, Emmet's versatility is evident. Once accustomed to navigating rally cars with precision, he now navigates the football field, albeit without the helmet. Whether playing football is safer than being in a rally car is a debate for another day!
